8 Lessons Learned From King David | A Man After God’s Own Heart

King David was certainly a great man of God whom God described as a man after His own heart. But he surely wasn’t a perfect godly person, for example, he had committed murder and adultery. However, something else stood out for him and that is his relationship with God. He had a deep and sincere relationship with God and by reason of this, he was highly blessed and favored which led him to become one of Israel’s greatest Kings and the lineage though which our Messiah, Jesus Christ came into the world.

I believe most (if not all) Christians would love to be described as a man or woman after God’s own heart. So, here are eight lessons I’ve learned from David’s relationship with God, which we can apply in our own lives too.

Here are 8 lessons learned from King David:

  1. David did anything God asked of him and desired to put the will of God first. Acts 13: 22
  2. He had a reverential fear of God. 1 Samuel 24: 1-13 1 Samuel 26: 7-9
  3. He loved to please God and honor Him with the best of what he had. 1 Chronicles 18:9-11 1 Chronicles 21:18-26 1 Chronicles 22:2-4 1 Chronicles 22:14
  4. David trusted and relied on God at all times. He sought God’s will and direction in every step and obeyed God’s leading without doubt. 1 Chronicles 14:8-17 2 Samuel 2: 1-4
  5. He was not ashamed to praise God publicly 1 Chronicles 29:10-20, sometimes even at the expense of being ridiculed. 1 Chronicles 15:27-29
  6. He loved to spend time with God in worship, singing sacred songs and playing musical instruments. Psalms 150
  7. He loved to communicate or pray to God no matter his circumstance. His prayers showed sincerity. He hid nothing from God and was fully aware God knew the desires of his heart anyway. Psalms 7
  8. When he sinned, he immediately had a heart of repentance and turned towards God, rather than away from Him, with a hardened heart. 1 Chronicles 21:1-7 2 Samuel 12:9-13
